Tianjin hosts int'l forum on the Belt and Road port cities

The International Forum on the Belt and Road Port Cities with the theme of connecting ocean and land through integrative development was held in Tianjin on Dec 7. Politicians, entrepreneurs and experts from all around the world gathered to promote the port cities along the Belt and Road countries.

Former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema pointed out that Italy has as long a history as China. Trade built ancient Silk Road routes, along which people exchanged thoughts and experiences in language, culture, and science and technology. Now, in modern times, the Belt and Road Initiative is powering global economic development and promoting diplomatic relations.

Mizengo Pinda, former prime minister of Tanzania, thinks that China is a reliable partner and ally, and is grateful for its help to Africa. In the Belt and Road Initiative, all countries have the common purpose of sharing benefits and welcoming prosperity.

Former Greek Prime Minister and President of the Socialist International George Papandreou said that the Belt and Road Initiative, a peaceful and cooperative project, could have a positive effect of opening dialogues and building friendships.

Port cities connect land and marine economies, and integrate land and marine cultures. In the Belt and Road Initiative, port cities connect the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and are supporting points for developing marine and hinterland economies and port-centered industries.

The president of Sokhna Port introduced the advantages and history of the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone. He thinks that the Belt and Road Initiative has huge potential as it could connect trade and investment in Asia and Europe.

Dong Qi, president of Beijing Normal University, pointed out that the Belt and Road Initiative includes communication about policies, facilities, trading, and funding, but also links people's minds. People's minds are the basis, while cultural communication and education cooperation are the effective methods. The goal is to build a cultural and economic alliance along the Belt and Road countries to promote both physical and cultural and educational exchanges.
